Fisher F22

Fisher F22 Weatherproof Metal Detector with Submersible Search Coil under $350

Features:

  • For finding lost treasures, relic hunting, detecting coins, jewellery, and artefacts
  • Features pinpoint mode
  • 10 adjustable sensitivity levels
  • Weather-resistant and submersible coil
  • Detects metals up to 9 in. deep
  • 5 year warranty

A low-end model from industry heavyweights Fisher, the F22 is an ideal entry-level/intermediary model. It’s designed to help newbies ramp up their expertise. And since it weighs only 2.3 pounds, women can easily carry it around for hours on end to really immerse themselves in the art of treasure hunting.

It also comes with a good value-to-price ratio, providing a decent assortment of features at an affordable rate. When used properly, these features allow for thorough sweeps down at least 9-inches below the surface to unearth relics, jewellery, and coins.

You’ll find the 10 adjustable sensitivity levels highly expedient for sifting through trash and junk finds. There’s also a pinpoint mode, but it seems like an afterthought to me, because its sensitivity pales when compared to those of hand-held pin-pointers. There’s also a 2-digit (1-99) numeric target identification integrated to also help in tracing out targets.

The machine operates on a low frequency which isn’t high enough to spot gold nuggets deep in the soil. It’s great for beginners to use beachcombing and treasure hunting.

FAQs

Are Fisher metal detectors good?

Fisher metal detectors are among the best there is. Fisher metal detectors have been around for a long time, Fisher has been in business since 1958 and they’re a pioneer of inductive technology. Fisher metal detectors are made by Fisher F2, Fisher F4, Fisher F75 and Fisher Gold Bug metal detector models.

What kind of warranty does it come with?

Fisher metal detector products (including Fisher Gold Bug models) come with 1 year manufacturer’s warranty from date of purchase which covers any manufacturing defects except missing parts due to user negligence during the period of validity. During this time, Fisher will offer repair service free-of-charge or replace the faulty unit at its discretion if repair is not possible (check your instruction manual).

Contact details are provided on the back of your instruction manual. Warranties generally do not cover accidental damage or loss/theft. For Fisher metal detectors Fisher recommends that you have a protective cover to protect the Fisher metal detector from weathering.

What are Fisher metal detectors made out of?

Fisher metal detectors are made with plastic, steel and aluminum. Fisher F2 model Fisher gold bug is made from aluminum. Fisher F4 model Fisher gold bug is made from stainless steel, Fisher Gold Bug for land has a Steel housing and uses Stainless Steel shafts in the coil assembly. Fisher F75 models Fisher 1250X and 1940X have a black finish on the upper portion of its housing. The lower portion is white.

What frequency do they use?

The frequency used by Fisher metal detectors depends on which one you buy so check the manual or spec sheets to know more. Fishers usually use 4 kHz, 5 kHz or 6 kHz frequency ranges for their Fisher metal detectors. Fisher Gold bug coinshooter models Fisher F2 and Fisher F4 are equipped with dual frequencies to be used in mixed trash hunting situations.

What does “Made in China” mean?

Fisher has an office in China and Fisher metal detectors are produced there. Fishers made by Fisher F2, Fisher F75 and Fisher Gold Bug Series use an OEM circuit board that Fisher purchases from a Chinese manufacturer because it’s cheaper than having Fisher make them (was told this by Fisher Engineers). They then install the components and program it at their HQ in California. Fisher Gold Bug series Fisher 1256X, 1940X models have been assembled in China since 2004 as per instruction manual.

Can a Fisher F22 metal detector find gold?

Yes, Fisher F22 Fisher metal detector can find gold. Fisher Gold Bug Series Fisher 1256X has a special 10 kHz frequency that is designed for searching for gold nuggets as well as silver coins. Fisher F75 , Fisher F2 and Fisher 1250X also have this 10 kHz frequency mode to be used when looking for gold. Threshold settings may need to be adjusted to make it easier to pinpoint the target versus trash..

How does the depth performance compare with other brands?  Fisher metal detectors are deep seeking detectors just like Minelab-Garrett, Bounty Hunter and Whites. The depth you get depends on ground conditions, soil mineralization and type of targets being detected just like any other brand out there so Fisher metal detectors aren’t necessarily better or worse this way. Fisher metal detectors Fisher Gold Bug Series Fisher 1256X and Fisher 1940X are designed to be stable in all ground conditions including wet salt water beach sand, clay, dry soil and most other ground types. They’re suitable for detecting in salt water (sea/ocean) at depth of up to 6 inches (15 cm) below the surface with good performance depending on the presence of minerals like iron pyrite (fool’s gold). Fishers Deep seeking Fisher F75 models Fisher 1250X and 1940X are excellent tools for detecting in very wet, salty beach sand where other brands perform poorly. This is because they feature a special elliptical coil design that makes them more “ground balanced” to handle high mineralization. Fisher Fisher metal detectors Fisher F2, Fisher F6 and Fisher Gold Bug Series Fishers are all excellent choices for finding coins that others might miss because they have a special “all metal mode” called discrimination that allows you to ignore iron objects.

Company History

Fisher stands for the founder’s name (Charles Fisher), not an acronym. The reason why Fisher metal detectors are made in China is simply because labour costs are cheaper there than in the USA or Europe so it allows them to make quality products at affordable prices that most people can afford.

How long has Fisher been making metal detectors? Fisher metal detectors have been on the market since 1970. Fisher F2 Fisher metal detector was introduced in 1977 and is one of their most popular Fishers still being produced today .

Fisher Gold Bug series Fisher 1256X, Fisher 1940X models were introduced in 1996 and are made to be deep seeking beach detectors that can handle any ground conditions while staying stable.

Why did Fisher stop making a certain model of a Fisher metal detector?

Fisher stops production of a model whenever they feel current sales performance is not high (so they don’t overstock inventory) or when there’s no more factory space available for assembly. This happens rarely nowadays because Fisher has gained enough popularity that they’re able to keep up with demand well..

How long Fisher Fisher metal detectors last is mostly determined by two factors: 1) regular use of the Fishers and 2) exposure to salt water.

Fisher F2 Fisher metal detector will be x-rayed for quality at a California factory before being placed on an express container FedEx truck for shipping to a distribution center in the USA. Fisher 1256X , Fisher 1940X models need to be assembled from parts so they have an assembly line process rather than being x-rayed because each one is hand built with care. Once you put them together, there’s no guarantee about how long they’ll work because it depends on usage and exposure to saltwater which can decrease performance over time due to corrosion.

What accessories should I get along with my Fisher metal detector?

Fisher offers an accessory kit for Fisher metal detectors called Fisher Accessory Kit 1 which includes a Fisher Rite-n-Flash coil cover, Fisher Adjustable Fisher Boot strap, Fisher Boot Patch and Fishers Carry Bag. The Carry Bag is adjustable so it fits any size Fisher metal detector.

How to find the best deals on Fisher metal detectors?

Fisher metal detectors are very popular even with beginners because they’re simple to use out of the box (straightforward controls), not too expensive (most people can afford them) but still get deep detecting at beach sand levels that other brands fail to do. When new models come out, prices for used/refurbished older models tend to drop because demand drops off… Check ebay or Amazon for sales on past models.
