Whites (known as Whites Electronics) has been around since 1972 and was founded by George Whitesides and Bill Sexton making it one of the oldest companies that provided quality products to customers. George Whitesides designed an early underwater mine detection device that was used during Vietnam war, Bill Sexton’s background is from radio engineering and computer science (Brandes ign, Whites Electronics). Whites has been famous for its high-quality detectors and amplifiers. Whites is a part of metal detecting history in the USA, Whites was one of the first to make a lightweight gold detector called “Gold Bug” in 1975 [1][2]. Since then many popular metal detectors have been made by Whites such as Whites SI 2000 [3] , Whites XLT [4] , Whites MXT [5], Whistles S-Line [6], Whites GPS-Silver Sensor [7].

As you can see from these company’s sites they are proud that their products are made in the USA and will hold up better in long term use. Most other companies in this industry produce lower-end models that may compete well price-wise but Whites Electronics still remains a leader in high-quality products. Whites was one of the first companies that have made a fully functioning underwater detector, Whites Sidewinder [8]. Whites Detectors are being folded into the Garrett Group and will continue to be made in America and supported by Garrett Electronics.
