Best Metal Detector Harness Australia
I have been metal detecting for about three years now and over the last year I have begun to experience strong shoulder pain. There are plenty of tips to help reduce this. Read our Tips to Reduce Shoulder Pain when Detecting.
A harness can help you manage your hunts better.
Why do you need to use a harness?
A body harness can help to take the weight of your metal detector off your arm, shoulder and wrist.
This is especially important if you have lower back or shoulder pain and want to prevent flexion and extension muscle strain.
This will also eliminate premature fatigue using the detector.
Wearing the metal detector harness is a matter of personal preference. The metal detectors that you have will determine how and where you wear your metal detecting harness. If you are using a metal detector under $600 then it is recommended to wear a metal detecting harness for maximum efficiency.
According to metal detecting experts, a metal detecting harness provides the following advantages:
1) A metal detecting harness holds your metal detector firmly in place on your body for convenience when doing strenuous physical activities such as hiking, digging holes or running around. A metal detecting harness also transfers the weight from your shoulders to around your hips which takes off some weight from your body allowing greater flexibility in movement.
2) An adjustable chest strap ensures an even distribution of weight across both shoulders and chest giving you a more comfortable metal detecting experience. Metal detecting straps also gives you metal detecting harnesses with metal detector accessories like headphones, metal detectors and the metal detector itself.
3) A metal detecting harness has attachment loops which are located around the metal detectors for comfort and flexibility during physical activities. A metal detecting harness is designed to carry your equipment in one place which makes it easier for you to move around especially during strenuous physical activities such as digging holes or climbing hills while metal detection requires the use of metal detector accessories that come with carrying cases when they aren’t being used.
4) Your metal detectors will become part of your clothing whenever you’re wearing a metal detector harness. And when you take them off they’ll give you a good idea of whether or not there is metal hidden in your clothing or not.
5) A metal detecting harness is essential metal detector accessories when metal detecting with a metal detector that comes with headphones and you can’t use the metal detectors without wearing it for convenience. The metal detectors will be secured to your body as well protecting them from damage from dirt, rocks and other solid materials which can damage the metal detectors while metal detecting.
6) A metal detecting harness gives you an even distribution of weight across your shoulders so you can focus more on your surroundings rather than some pain in your shoulders or neck area when fatigued. Wearing a metal detector is as simple as putting on clothes and they are comfortable enough to wear all day long whether you stay still or go from place to place metal detecting.
What should you do once you have fitted the harness?
Slip your body and arms through the harness and clip it at the front.
Straps should be adjusted for your individual comfort before you start working a field or beach.
Do I need a different harness if I am left handed?
The best harnesses can be worn by either the right or left handed detectorist.
However.. The Double D Summer Harness can be made as a Left or Right handed model with the pouch in a different position.
What are the benefits of using a harness?

9. Technology employs three biomechanical strategies to transfer the detector mass (weight) away from the operator’s arm.
10. Remove flexion and extension muscle strain, use solid skeletal structure to support loads, avoid soft tissue anchor points.
11. These effectively remove the need for the arm’s muscles to tense in a flexion extension position while swinging the detector, and therefore prevent the muscle fatigue and soreness that is commonly experienced with metal detecting.
Features:
1. Technology also allows the arm to freely medially rotate and abduct to swing the detector without the need to hold it up off the ground.
2. Most traditional bungy and harness systems are only effective at removing the load from the upper arm and forearm, leaving the shoulder to bear the weight of the detector.
3. Other systems attempt to rectify this by using a strut to transfer the weight from the shoulder to the front of the hip in a concentrated point.
4. However, this is a soft tissue area and incapable of supporting a load without discomfort.
5. Additionally, since this area of the body is soft, the strut sinks into the hip and pulls down on the shoulder, thus becomes ineffective at releasing the strain in the shoulder.
6. The first technology that significantly reduces the load on the shoulder without transferring it to a soft tissue area.
7. W8 technology achieves this by directing the load to the back of the hip, which is a solid anchor point for the strut.
8. This ensures the shoulder is released from the majority of the strain, the only load left is to hold the top of the strut upright.
9. This small remaining load is dissipated by the wide shoulder straps and back cushioning.
10. The result is a detecting harness that allows the operator to detect in comfort for longer, resulting in more finds and more enjoyment.
11. An ergonomic detecting harness that allows for weightless metal detecting in superior comfort

July 2020 review:
5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the low price for USA made stuff!

I am really impressed with the quality of this sling. USA made of course. I was a bit skeptical at first about the material the shoulder strap was made of (a harder but pliable rubber/polymer) but
WEAR A SHIRT. I have a bit of Tennis elbow which is why I considered it, really my Garrett Ace
400 detector isn’t all that heavy. Brilliant construction but for the Bianchi-style clip that holds onto
the detector shaft below the box. It’s a bit fiddly but I get it, and it holds securely. Adjusting it is
relatively simple and retention of set adjustments is fair to good, could be better, but adjustment
on the fly is good to excellent once one gets used to it. The sliding buckles could use a bit more.
If I had any objection to using this, it would be that it tends to limit a full 180 degree low and slowswing, noticeable at the hand side one swings it from. This was the same tendency I noted when I made a sling from a Targus shoulder camera strap I used before I bought this, so I expected that, it may be a hard flaw to overcome. Other than that I do expect it will save my elbow some stress over time. Great product!
